Why I Hate Alchemy

Etsy has this thing called Alchemy. Basically, a buyer will request items that they want be it art, a handbag, or whatever. The buyer sets all the standards pretty much, how much they want to pay, the dimensions of the object, etc... At first, I thought this idea was really cool. But now, I don't think so at all.

When you let the buyer choose the price, most people will low ball you. With the economy currently being so bad and sellers hungry for sales, people seem to be underselling one another just to get a little bit of money. Now, this might be good for a buyer but as a seller, it really sucks. I hate the thought of people not making any profits just so they can make a sale. It seems like just a competition for your item to be picked instead of a buyer actually looking for a nice quality piece.

I think this whole Alchemy thing just might ruin Etsy. People seem to be working for peanuts and that will drive the quality sellers away. Hopefully, it will just die down again.
