Black Magic Night Owl

I tried the new technique this week and it didn't go too well.  I don't have fancy colored pencils (just the regular kind for the kid's aisle at the store) nor do I have Gamsol.  So, I used my cheapy colored pencils and tried using baby oil and that got me no where.

I tried the baby oil both on the tip of the pencil before I colored and after I colored but it didn't work either way for me.  The baby oil just kind of turned my paper darker and I couldn't color over it.  So, I just colored this with my pencils and hoped for the best.

I'm not thrilled with how the owl turned out but I decided to go ahead and make it into a card anyhow.  I do however LOVE how the moon came out.  I punched white card stock with a circle punch.  Then I put some black diamond Stickles on it.  I LOVE the effect!  I think it looks much more like the moon than a regular white circle would have.

  1. considering all your obstacles I think the card turned out great! I too don't own any fancy colored pencils of mineral spirits!!! Nor do I intend on buying it with the rise of copics becoming so popular!
