Best Bites: June 2017

Happy July!  Can you believe it's July and over half this year is over?  I can't.  I'm actually kinda freaking out over it.  I feel like I should have done so much more by now and changed into a far better person.  What can you do?  I guess we have 5 more months to get it together.

I'm starting something new this month and you'll have to let me know how you like it.  Instead of doing "favorites", I wanted to do Best Bites of each month.  I post so much food on Instagram and I don't post nearly enough here on my blog so I figured this is a great way to bring them together.  In no particular order, here we go!

Cupcakes from Katelynd Knill.  Katelynd is a local baker and I have been dying to try her baked goods.  She makes GORGEOUS cakes!  I got the chance to try a few cupcakes from her and they were AMAZING!  This girl knows flavor!  I got to try the Oreo, Mocha, and Lemon cupcakes and each flavor was so bold and pronounced.  I loved them!  I feel like a lot of cupcakes have the tendency to just taste sweet but these each packed a bunch and there was no questioning what flavor they are.  I can't wait to try more treats from Katelynd!

Green Tomatillo Spaghetti and Meatballs from Todo Un Poco in Elk Grove.  I really try to order different dishes each time I go to a restaurant because I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone and experience new things all the time.  I've gone long enough doing the same thing every single time.  HOWEVER, I was craving this dish.  You KNOW it's good when my hubby tells me he's ordering it too and I don't even care.  I usually try to get something different and we share both dishes.  Not this time.  I was gonna eat this ALL to myself.  It's a Mexican spin on spaghetti where the sauce is made with tomatillos instead of tomatoes.  This time it was dressed with some sriracha sauce and as always served with their fried bread.  I LOVE the green sauce on this dish!  It's so good!

Thai Papaya Salad from Deliciozo in Elk Grove.  My current obsession is papaya salad!  It doesn't matter what style it is (Thai, Vietnamese, Laos, etc...), I just love it!  It doesn't hurt that it's served cold and it was over 100 degrees so many times in June.  I love the pungent dressings!  And I like some spice in my papaya salad.  This version from Deliciozo is so fresh and bright!  I got the medium spicy and it packed a real punch of heat.  It's so good and the flavor always has me coming back for more!

Fried Chicken from Bar Rouse in Sacramento.  Here's where the getting a new dish every time you go somewhere really pays off.  I've eaten my way through quite a bit of the Bar Rouse menu but I hadn't had this fried chicken dish.  Honestly, I don't tend to order a lot of fried chicken.  No reason behind it, I just usually gravitate towards other things.  Well, you should gravitate yourself towards this chicken.  This is one of the best fried chicken dishes I've ever had!  It's served with a corn sauce, bacon braised kale, and smoked chili honey.  I can't even tell you how good this is!  The chicken is flavorful and juicy and crunchy and a little sweet and a little spicy from the honey.  The kale was good too and I loved the corn sauce!

Lobster Miso Ramen medium spicy from Ramen Parlor in San Mateo.  My cousin told me that she found the BEST ramen place near her home.  That is a TALL order so of course when we went to visit her, the first thing we did was go have ramen.  Their broth is AMAZING!  They get so much flavor into the broth but it's not overly salted (which I find happens a lot when places simmer broth all day.)  The medium spice level had a good kick but I honestly could have gone for more spice.  The noodles were a lovely al dente texture and the pork belly was melt in your mouth tender.  It was definitely one of the best bowls of ramen I've had!

Hope you enjoyed this post!  What was your best bite from last month?  Leave a comment and let me know so I can check it out to!

10: A Story of Birth, Pizza, and Father's Day

Ten years.  That seems like such a long time but it went by in the blink of an eye.  June 18, 2017 is my son's 10th birthday.  It's been TEN years since I started this new chapter of my life.  Ten years that my heart has been walking around outside my body.

Today, I'm sharing with you a fun fact about my oldest son's birth and how life comes full circle.  Also a giveaway because what's a birthday with no presents.  (This will not be graphic but might be TMI/gross for some, namely people who aren't moms.)

I remember waking up on June 17, 2007 being so ginormously pregnant.  It was SO hot that summer in Sacramento and I was miserable and certain that this baby would never leave my body.  It was a Sunday and it actually happened to be Father's Day but I was in no mood to celebrate as there was a watermelon on my front side.  I was laying in bed watching Food Network shows (as I'm certain most pregnant with their first baby women do) when I felt like I was leaking something.  Not a lot but something was happening.
May 2007
Photo from Mystic Eye Photography

I called the hospital and they told me to go to Labor and Delivery to get checked out.  They told me on the phone that I could shower first and take my time since they were just being safe.  I get up, shower, and take all sorts of precautions about the leaking i.e. wearing pad, carrying a waterproof blanket to sit on in the car, etc...  We drive to the hospital and I waddle up to L&D.  After being scolded for showering (hello, I asked on the phone), I get settled into my hospital gown and they swab me and tell me I am not leaking anything.  In fact, I'm barely dilated and this baby isn't coming any time soon so just go home and relax.  Thanks nurses.

Of course as a first time mom, I feel sheepish.  I'm one of THOSE ladies who ran to the hospital for nothing and now I just have to go home.  Since it was Father's Day and we were already out and dressed, I told my hubby that we should go to a late lunch and treat ourselves to a little food as a pre-baby Father's Day celebration.  We went home to drop off all the hospital stuff since I had a laptop, a camera, and all sorts of stuff in there.

Father's Day Lunch

My husband LOVES pizza so we headed to Steve's Pizza which was right by our house at the time.  We had a delicious late lunch and I'm sure I had a bunch of soda or water so I had to go to the bathroom before we left.  After using the restroom, I went over to wash my hands and there's a young lady in there, teens or maybe early twenties.  A sensation came over me, I grabbed onto the sink and made some sort of face causing the girl to say "are you ok?"  I remember thinking "AM I OK?"  I told her that I think I might be going into labor but I just went to the hospital and they told me that the baby wasn't coming.

The bathroom where I went into labor

I leave the bathroom and go to find Dustin.  I see Dustin standing the middle of the restaurant with the receipts.  I think "Oh good, he paid!"  I'm walking across the restaurant and mid-stride that leaking I felt turned into more than just a drip.  I remember Dustin looking at me like what's going on.  I am horrified and I say "I think my water just broke."  He says "What do you want to do?"  And I say "I need to get outside so it doesn't get on the carpet" then I start running.  Pregnant lady running through the pizza place leaving my husband in my dust I just HAVE to make it to the door before I feel the fluid on my calves.  I made it!

This is a long way to pregnant waddle run

We hopped in the car, went home and grabbed the bag, and 27 hours of labor later I had the sweetest, most perfect baby boy.  (And yes, upon returning to the hospital they asked me if I was sure my water actually broke. :/ ) I ended up having a few complication after birth with retained placenta and when I wrote up my birth story, I totally forgot to include this part in it since I was so traumatized and tired from everything that happened.  But to this day, that story is one of my favorites.  We were these young kids and I just remembered thinking that it would be to horrific to have your water break in public the whole time I was pregnant.  I also remember my doctor telling me that it happened in less than 10% of labors.
June 18, 2007

Earlier this year, Steve's Pizza start following me on Instagram and one day I decided to leave them a comment and tell them my story.  Their social media manager Eric told me that I should tell the staff next time I went to Steve's.  I got a chance to talk to the owner when I went in a few months ago and he told me that he thought that the world would love to hear my story.  Now, ten years later with all this mothering under my belt, I took my son back to Steve's Pizza to tell him the story about the boy who wanted to be born at the pizza place.

Steve's Pizza was kind enough to give me 2 gift cards worth $25 each to give to my readers.  These are good at ANY Steve's Pizza locations.  I am giving one away on my Instagram and one of my Facebook, just look for the post with one of these pizza photos of us.  Here are the direct links:

To Do in Sac: Rivercity Market Place

Hi there!  I think I'm going to start a new series called "To Do in Sac" about things to do.  What do you guys think?  I always struggle with knowing what to do.  We usually do the same old stuff like go to the movies, go out to eat, or the park by our house.  I figured I'll go explore some of what the Sacramento area has to offer and report back.

Photo from River City Marketplace Facebook Page

First up is River City Marketplace, which is like a giant craft fair taken up a notch.  The vendors at River City Marketplace are all local artisans, builders, crafters who have high quality items and unique ideas.  It's basically like you're walking around Etsy in real life.  All the products I saw looked really professional like you would find in a high end boutique.  This is NOT like the craft fair at church where people are decorating candy canes and selling them for a dollar, though I LOVE those events too!  The admission is free but we did have to pay for metered street parking.

The event I went to was in Fremont Park in Downtown Sacramento.  This park has an awesome fenced in playground for the kids so that was amazing!  They also had giant versions of board games and there was a complimentary craft table put on by The Greenhouse by Ana Apple which my kids LOVED!  They also loved getting Italian Ice from What's Happening Italian Ice which is based out of Elk Grove.  The vibe of the whole event is perfect for kids!  They also have some vendors that sell things for kids like clothes, hair accessories, and other fun knick knacks.

I really enjoyed looking at the beautiful jewelry, bath items, and women's clothes!  It was amazing to see how many cool LOCAL vendors are in my area!  There were even two boutique trucks there like food trucks except you could go into the truck and shop!  I loved that RCMP gave me the opportunity to see them all in one place!  There was also some yummy food but you have to get to these guys quick because stuff starts selling out.  They had the Its Nacho Truck, Purple Pig Eats bbq, Conscious Creamery (vegan gelato and baked goods), Burly Beverages, and Italian Ice as I mentioned before.  I really wish I had gotten food earlier but as I was wandering around, they sold out of food but I also came later in the day.

Here's my haul from that day.  I got a t-shirt from Rich and Riot since I LOVE her women positive message!  Yasss, girl boss!  And I got the cutest wood magnet and hair bows (the other one has been commandeered) from my friend Marie at The Freckled Moon.  I could have bought the whole booth, it was all so cute!

And the Italian Ice we got.

Here's my Instagram Story from the event.  It's not at all professional but it will give you the idea of what you can expect when you go to RCMP.

The next event is April 30 and I'm going to try to go.  Do you have events you think I should check out?  Leave them in the comments please!

That One Time I Accidentally Stalked Top Chef's Jamie Lauren

Back in February, I wiggled my way into a dinner hosted by my good friend Heather for people coming into town for her Lularoe training event.  She told me that she was having it at Blackbird since it was close to the hotel where people were staying.  I had never been to Blackbird so I started my research.

When I go to a restaurant, I want to try the best they have to offer.  I don't want to judge them off an obscure menu item that no one ever orders and I want food that photographs beautifully.  My usual places to check are Instagram then Yelp.  Since I LIVE on Instagram (follow me if you haven't :D ), I went to do some research.  The Blackbird Instagram page didn't have any updated posts so I tapped on their location to see what pictures would pop up.  This is where I get myself into trouble.

I found some awesome food pictures from someone I thought was their chef.  I didn't pay attention to the name.  I check out the food pictures and try to decide what I want to order.  When it came close to the event, I left a comment "I can't wait to try some dishes tomorrow" or something to that effect.  And the chef replies "See you then."  Then I get awkwardly creepy (in true Ashley fashion) and say something like "Will I actually get to see you?"  Wow, I'm embarrassed.  I meant, is it a gallery kitchen or does the chef bring out the food to the table herself... Not, "Hi, I'm a crazy stalker."

But it gets worse.  The night of the event rolls around and we are all there having a great time.  There are drinks, food, friends, and tons of laughter.  Eventually, I excuse myself to use the lady's room.  Upon exiting, I notice a sign by the mirror and cleverly written backwards is the phrase Time for a Selfie.  Well... you don't have to ask me twice!  I'm in the bathroom, taking selfies when someone walks in.  Of course, I'm all embarrassed.

But the darling girl says "No, that's what it's there for" and pulls out her phone and takes a photo with me.  I asked her to text me the phone.  I start chatting with her and discover that she's the chef at the restaurant.  She looked so young that I thought she was a dishwasher or a busser.  I started talking to her wondering if she's the person I've been talking to on Instagram.  Of course, I don't realize until later that she's established Sacramento Chef Carina Lampkin.

Another lady walks into the bathroom.  I look up at her and think, I KNOW her.  How do I know her?  Then I think, OH MY GOSH, she was on Top Chef!  I'm for some reason still in the bathroom chatting.  Of course (because why would I have boundaries) I ask her "Were you on Top Chef?"  And she says "yes."  Then I start talking to her and realize that she's the person I've been talking to on Instagram and now I've CORNERED HER IN A BATHROOM LIKE A CRAZY PERSON.  Yet, I still ask if I can take a picture with her because I still haven't realize how much of a stalker I sound like.  I'm just pumped full of adrenaline in the moment.  She is such a great sport and goes to get Carina so we can get a group photo.

It wasn't until I was walking back up the stairs of the restaurant to join my friends that I reflected back on ALL my actions from the last day.  Then I realized that poor Top Chef Jamie Lauren probably thought I stalked her to the place where she was a guest chef and corned her in the bathroom.  I went back to Instagram and tried to apologize.  I text Carina back and thank her for taking the time to talk to me and for the photo.  And GUESS WHAT?  I was invited back to try more menu items!  She tells me that she and Jamie will cook for me themselves!  I almost fainted.

Here are some of the amazing dishes I got to try and another picture I forced Jamie to take with me:

I've since been invited back a few times to meet about food blogging and social media.  Unfortunately, Jamie had to leave to do other work.  (LOTS of exciting things coming up in her future!) But she left her menu behind at Blackbird and let me tell you, her food is even more amazing than I thought it would be after watching her on Top Chef and Top Chef All Stars.  You gotta try her food!  I felt like I was experiencing a once in a lifetime opportunity right here in Sacramento at Blackbird.

And the moral of the story is that sometimes you are so painfully, awkwardly yourself and people can still see your goodness and your well meaning intentions.

Port, Wine, and Chocolate Lover's Weekend

***This post is for the 21+ crowd!***

Over the years, I've heard of the Port Wine and Chocolate Lover's Weekend at the Old Sugar Mill.  It is always the weekend before Valentine's Day and I had been meaning to go for YEARS!  It sounded perfect for me since I like sweet wines and I LOOOOOOVE chocolate!  This year, I would lucky enough to be invited* to go to the event!

The event takes place at The Old Sugar Mill which is in Clarksburg while it's technically in Yolo County, it's super close to Elk Grove and Sacramento.  My biggest piece of advice for you for this event is to take an Uber or Lyft or taxi (I'm not affiliated with any of these companies.)  The reason is the parking lot is very small and the event gets very full.  Beyond that, the ticket price includes tastings at each of the 13 wineries plus you'll probably find wine you love, want to have a few glasses, and you don't want to drink and drive.

The admission comes with an Old Sugar Mill wine glass that you get to keep and that's what you use to go around and taste.  There is also a designated driver ticket available at a lower cost that includes admission with no tastings.  Most of the wineries have a table set up in the main hallway of the OSM so you don't have to go inside their tasting room unless you want to pay for their full tasting.  Most of the tastings came with a piece of chocolate or a piece chocolate dessert.  I discovered at this event that my palette has changed a bit and I don't drink wines quite as sweet as I used to.  I really enjoyed the most of the ports but some of the late season whites and muscats leaned a little too sweet for me.  My absolute FAVORITE thing I tasted was a Petite Sirah and sparkling wine mixed "cocktail" from Clarksburg Wine Company called L'Etoile Rouge.  I've never thought to mix wines together to make a wine cocktail.

Beyond the wines, OSM brings in some vendors (mostly food) and food trucks to the events.  All of the vendors I checked out were giving away samples of their goods.  We ended up buying some delicious marshmallows from The Rustic Puff for Valentine's Day to make the kids special hot cocoa and some yummy lime curd from 2 English Ladies.  For lunch, we got some tacos and an aqua fresca from Masa Guiseria and a gyro and some fries from Gyro King.  It was a really yummy lunch and we got to sit outside since that weekend was beautifully sunny!  They had live music set up outside.

There was a really cool mix of people at the event!  I met a young couple from Canada that were super sweet!  I also met a whole group of people from Sacramento AcroYoga which I've only seen on Instagram and Snapchat and it was awesome to see them doing their acroyoga in person.  They were all so kind and welcoming!  You never know who you'll meet at these events!

The Old Sugar Mill has events like this throughout the year, next up is a Brazilian Carnaval which I've never been to but sounds like fun!  I would recommend these events!  I've gone out there for a Wine and Cheese event and a Grapes and Grub event and they were both fun.

I've done something different and made a Youtube video of my SnapChat story from the Port Wine and Chocolate Lovers event.  It was my very first time doing this and I hope to improve in the future. Please let me know if you enjoy the video more than the usually handful of pictures I normally post.  Thank you!

*I was gifted tickets to this event through work.  This blog post was not solicited or sponsored.  I am simply sharing my experience about a cool event I went to in hopes that people looking into these events can get some information.  All opinions are my own.

Sola Bee Farms: Using Honey to Combat Allergies

***Since allergy season is upon us, I've decided to repost this post on Sola Bee Farms from my other blog that I decided not to post on any further.***

One of the very best things about living in California is the amazing produce which is abundant this time of year and you know who we have to thank for so much of our produce?  Bees!  I don't ever think that the importance of bees can ever be stressed enough.  I partnered with Sola Bee Farms for an informative post and a review of their honey.

First off, I asked Claire from Sola Bee Farm to give me some important facts about bees and honey to share with you.  Here is what she had to say:

California Honey Bee Facts

California’s agriculture system- the fresh foods we all eat!- are highly dependent on pollination by managed honeybees colonies like ours.

Studies show the 1 in every 3 bites of food is pollinated by a manage honeybee.

Here’s a quick list of some of the food we can thank our honeybees (and beekeepers!) for: Apples, Oranges, Broccoli, Blueberries, cherries, Onions, Cucumbers, (& pickles!) Cantaloupes,

Carrots,
Avocados, Almonds,
Alfalfa (for cows!)

Managed honeybee colonies support the health and habit for native pollinators, including butterflies, bumblebees, birds and other beneficial insects.

Raw honey contains antioxidants, vitamins A, B, C, D and K, and helps fend of seasonal allergies! It's also a natural antiseptic, and has is a natural energy food. It's much healthier than eating processed sugar!

I think it's really important for us to understand the importance of bees in our community.  It is also very important to teach kids that while they do need to be cautious of bee stings, bees are extremely beneficial to our environment and shouldn't be destroyed.  Beyond pollinating plants, bees also give us honey.

Sola Bee Farms is a really cool business.  The Tauzer Family has been in farming since 1861 and has evolved with the times.  Sola Bee Farms is the newest endeavor started in 2011.  They have their bees in different bee friend farms and ranches all over Northern California to create different varietals of honey.  Sola believes in sustainability and innovation.  All their honeys are raw, 100% pure, and only the excess honey is harvested from the hives because taking care of bees is their top priority.  They also use "green" products in their packaging.

For my review, I decided to try the California Seasonal which is said to help lessen the symptoms of seasonal allergies.  First off, this is the most delicious honey I've ever tasted in my life.  I am officially swearing off honey purchased at the grocery store or big box stores.  There are so many subtle flavors within the sweetness including floral notes and something that almost hits a tart note on my tongue.  As for allergies, I'm going to admit that I'm not excellent at eating honey every single day and I could probably get much better results if I could remember to eat it every day religiously.  I did, however, notice a huge change.  I could skip taking allergy medicines most days because I ate the honey, on days with high wind I added in an allergy nose spray and that worked really well for me.

If you're looking for some delicious honey that will help out with your allergies, check out Sola Bee Farms!  You can also find them at the Sola Bee Farm Facebook page.  I get my honey from the Old Elk Grove Farmers Market.

Market at Power Inn

One day, I received a message on my Instagram from Masa Taco Kitchen inviting me to a brand new event that was opening in April called Market at Power Inn to meet them and try their tacos (which are amazing.)  I had never heard of Masa Taco Kitchen or Market at Power Inn but when I started EatingElkGrove, I decided to push myself, do new things, and have new experiences.

My hubby and I headed to Market at Power Inn put on by the amazing people at Unseen Heroes for the very first event in April.  We also went back one time in May too.  Market at Power Inn is every Friday from 10am-2pm at Regional Transit Park and Ride at Power Inn and Folsom Blvd.  Though they call it a farmers market, I think of it more as a super trendy lunch spot where you can also buy produce, local prepared foods, and shop from craft vendors.

Vendors

Food Trucks

Prepared Food Tents
Fun chairs to hang out in
They have this huge awesome tent where they set up seating; regular and high top tables with cute center pieces where you can eat your food in the shade.  There's a band playing and the vibe is awesome.  As you walk around the perimeter of the market you can find food trucks that rotate from week to week, tents where they prepare food like my new friends Masa Taco Kitchen, tables where people can sell their prepared foods like gourmet marshmallows, baked good, tamales, salsa, etc..., and farmers selling their local produce, flowers, and nuts.  The tented food and food vendors mostly stay the same from week to week.  The food trucks and craft vendors rotate.  I like to get some early lunch since I like going before it too hot, sit down, hang out a bit, listen to the live music, then shop for my produce and goodies before I leave.

Local produce
Locally baked bread

This is an awesome spot to hang out!  You can bring your kids and try all the fun samples.  It's a great place to talk to local farms and small business owners to learn about the food they sell.  I've also had some great conversations with the friendly people who attend, too!  I can't wait to go back again!

Midtown Jerky Review

Before hitting Instagram and the local farmers markets, I had no idea all of the amazing food you could purchase from local businesses in Sacramento.  One of the first companies that I talked about working with is Midtown Jerky Co.  I was super new to the scene but Ryan from Midtown Jerky Co, was super nice and wanted to work with me, saying that we could help each other.

First, let me say that I LOVE jerky.  I always have some in the pantry for when I need a high protein snack.  I pack in on road trips, take it on vacation with us, and at almost any given time will have jerky on me.  I buy all different types of beef jerky.  I'm a jerky enthusiast.  I, somehow did not know that I could buy LOCALLY made jerky.  Midtown Jerky Co. is a small batch artisan jerky company that only uses the finest meat and ingredients in their product.  Ryan sent me 3 packages of beef jerky to review which made me super happy.

I'll start with the Peppered jerky.  Peppered is usually not my preferred choice when picking a jerky flavor BUT I think Midtown Jerky Co's peppered is my favorite.  It's not your typical peppered jerky.  This jerky has an overtone of savory matched with sweetness, then it's loaded up with course black pepper.  It's smoky, chewy, and a perfect snack for any time.

Next is the Sweet Heat.  You can tell by looking at this jerky that it has a nice sweet glaze on it from the sheen.  The sweetness hits your palette first then it finishes with heat in the back of your mouth.  I think the sugar level on this jerky keeps it the most moist of all the flavors.  This is pretty spicy.  If it were at a restaurant, I will give it 2.5-3 chili peppers.  (You know how Thai places and some other places have a scale of chili peppers on the menu?)

Last but not least is the Sesame Citrus.  I like that Midtown Jerky Co. has a unique offering for people who don't like spiciness.  Most companies do a teriyaki which I love but it's always nice to have flavor options.  This jerky has the most rounded flavor since you get that orange juice bringing a nice twang to the jerky.  It's salty, sweet, and you get pops of both flavor and texture from the sesame seeds they sprinkle on the jerky.

Overall, I LOVE Midtown Jerky Co. and I'm excited to be able to buy some local jerky for my snacking needs.  I just wish they had resealable bag since I try really hard not to eat it all in one sitting.  I just popped mine into a zip top freezer bag after I opened it and it stayed fresh.  You can find Midtown Jerky Co. at SaveMart grocery stores in the Sacramento area, at farmers markets around town, OR you can order online from Midtown Jerky Co.'s Online Store.  You can also find them on their Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

NSBW Spotlight: Eat Right Edibles

Mixed in with the rows of fresh produce and ready to serve foods at the Farmers Market, I found Eat Right Edibles.  They are the perfect mix of both.  Eat Right Edibles is a family business from West Sacramento and they make what they call "The tastiest snack you'll have all day."  The offer an array of dried veggie chips, corn snacks, dried fruit, puffed corn, and candy.  They also offer the sweetest service.

I've run into the Eat Right Edibles booth 3 different times.  I've fallen a little in love with their family.  The first time, I talked to a lady (unfortunately I didn't get her name) who I later learned is the matriarch of the family.  She was so sweet and so informative.  She told us to come have a sample.  It's a farmers market, I figure I should sample everything.  I did not expect to love the product.  She had us try the veggie chips which were good.  Then she had us try their hull-less puffed corn.  I don't even know how to explain it to you.  They are fluffy, puffy,  with a coating that's almost shell like of delicious flavor.  They are halfway between Cheetos and Pirate Booty but way better and they have sweet flavors.  She also had us sample the toasted corn.  I thought they would be like corn nuts.  I was wrong, they have a crisp texture but without the feeling that you might break your teeth.  The FLAVOR was amazing!  We ended up buying the Ranch Toasted Corn because these crisp little kernels had the BEST ranch flavor you've ever tasted; salty, a little tangy, and the perfect mix of herbs/spices that makes an awesome ranch.

Last Sunday when I walked up to the booth, I saw little Jacob standing their running the booth.  He's a darling 10 year old boy who is so knowledgeable on the product his family makes.  I asked him why he was working the booth by himself and he said that his grandma (the lady I met before) was on a much needed vacation and he told his dad to take a break but he was just behind him in the truck and they had walkie-talkies.  He gave me a few samples and we really starting talking and he decided that I should try some of his favorites.  He gave me a churro puffed corn and a caramel puffed corn and told me to eat them together.  Then he told me that he was running a special where I could buy 2 of the $6 bags for $10.  Needless to say, I left with more ranch toasted corn and some churro puffed corn.

I didn't get a chance to reach out to them for any comments but they are literally at a different Farmers Market event EVERY DAY so I'm glad I didn't bother them.  Drop by their booth and give their products a try.  You can check their Eat Right Edibles Facebook page to see where they will be.  They also ship so if you're not local and want to give it a try, check out their website.
