Old Elk Grove Farmers Market

Yesterday, I went to the soft opening of a new Farmers Market in Elk Grove.  One of my friends shared a post about it on Facebook and I decided to go take a look and see what they had to offer.  Last Saturday was my wedding anniversary so my mom took the kids to her house and we were kid free for the weekend!  As we were walking up to the market, I told my hubby that I felt like some young hipster.

I talked to the gentleman running the event and he told me all sorts of interesting facts.  The Old Elk Grove Farmers Market is put on by Living Smart.  Living Smart is a non profit company that educates youth on how to run a business as well as how to manage their personal finances.  The teens in this program go out to the farmers markets to practice the lessons they've been taught while earning a wage.  I even got to meet a young man at the Living Smart booth who is a participant in the program.  He is training to someday take over and run this event!  It warmed my heart to know the amazing story behind this very special market.

This week's market had about 40 vendors.  They had a band playing live music at the end.  On the right hand side of the market, there were vendors that had prepared food like popcorn, Italian ice, beef jerky, bread, etc... as well as vendors that had product such as toys, tote bags, bath products, and more.  On the left hand side, there were stands with vegetables, fruit, eggs, flowers, honey, cheese, and even fish to name a few things.

Everyone was very friendly!  I loved the vibe of the whole place!  The vendors were great.  I don't know about you but I love going around the farmers market trying samples so I know what I want to buy.  Can I just say how delicious citrus fruits are right now?  We bought 4 different kinds of citrus.

You can check out the Old Elk Grove Farmers Market every Sunday from 9am-1pm, year round!  They will have their big grand opening on May 1.  I don't know what that will entail but I imagine it will be awesome!  You can also check out the Old Elk Grove Farmers Market Facebook Page to keep up to date on their happenings.

I am in no way affiliated with Living Smart or Old Elk Grove Farmers Market.  I'm just writing my personal opinions so other people can decide if this is the type of event they want to go to.
