Park Winters Summerland 2019

Oh, the magic that is Summerland!  If you read my Summerland 2018 blog post, you know how much I loved the event!  I was so lucky to be invited back to the blissful Park Winters for an inspiring day of fun and networking.  Unfortunately, we had previously agreed to another important function the same day so I didn't get to stay the whole time but I'm recapping what I got to experience.

Of course, Park Winters was decorated in the most amazing fashion!  They have the most amazing event planners and florists set up gorgeous areas to sit and lounge in.  This year the theme was Summer Solstice and they appropriately held the event on June 21.  There were lovely tones of blush pink everywhere!  It was a dream!

For things to do, there was a market to shop from amazing local vendors.  There was also a beautiful flower crown making station put on by Farmer Hands.  An artist named Greg Galinsky was painting a canvas live.  The stunning Park Winters pool was available for swimming or living your best floatie life as well as lounging in cabanas, listening to the DJ, and grabbing a drink at the bar.

We had a delicious picnic style lunch provided by Nugget Markets.  They had sandwiches, veggie trays, fruit trays, charcuterie boards, and a variety of lovely desserts.  Coffee was offered from a coffee cart called Whole Latte Love Bar.  A variety of different drinks were available at different locations throughout the property.

After lunch, there was a panel of amazing Sacramento and Bay area influencers moderated by my friend Kachet Jackson-Henderson of The Kachet Life and also creator of The Blog Bloc.  We heard from Melissa Johnson of Best Friends for Frosting, Erin Alderson of Naturally Ella and Grove Haus, Tamryn Miller of Wannabe Fashion Blogger, and Will Thompson aka GoodThompson of GoodInc.  The panel spoke about influence, vulnerability, and the importance of being yourself.  It was informative and inspiring to hear them all speak!

In the afternoon, the Bar Baby Co mobile bar opened with their amazing specialty drinks.  Bar Baby is the cutest trailer and they are actually based of out Sacramento so I've seen them before.  They made amazing drinks to match the theme of the event.  I had the Femme Rising and it was delicious!  It also had a cute little empowering message included to read.  Boba Guys came and set up a boba bar which was so delicious!  And the Meltdown Ice Cream truck came to help everyone cool off with their classic ice cream truck treats.

On our way out, we stopped by another area with a different coffee truck called Lady Falcon Coffee Club and got their bottles cascara for energy for the drive to our family reunion.  It was delicious and tasted so much like tart cherries.  VisitYolo, Hotel Winters, and Davis Farm to School had a great Farmer's Market set up giving out delicious produce and there was a station to make your own trail mix.  Another great snack to give us energy for our trip.

Hoshall's Spa Day

What could beat a day at the spa?  All my blogger dreams came true the day that Hoshall's Salon & Spa invited me to try their services.  They invited me the week before Mother's Day for a relaxing spa experience to get me ready for Mother's Day.  I could not be more excited!

I received free services in exchange for a social media post.  This blog post was not required and I'm writing it because I truly loved my experience and think that it would be one of the best gifts you could give someone.

Hoshall's is in Folsom, CA near the Rainbow Bridge.  They were founded over 40 years ago and in 2016 Hoshall's became an all women owned business.  I got to meet owners Kathy Fennessy and Mary Brigham and not only were they absolutely lovely people but you could tell they took a lot of care in every single detail they put into their place.

Confession: I have never been to a real full service spa before.  I have been to a salon/spa and a chain massage place to get massages and I've been to a small salon to have a facial but not this kind of spa. It was so fun to change into a robe and slippers (lockers are provided for your belongings) to lounge around the spa!  I think being in the robe puts you in a different mindset.  PS the robe had pockets so I kept my phone with me the whole time so I could take selfies, not sorry.

One of the things that surprised me most about Hoshall's is their giant beautiful patio which looks out onto a beautiful nature landscape.  I've been in the same parking lot various times and had no idea that the view in the back was so stunning!  They offer the patio for rent for private events such as birthdays, baby showers, or even a couple's day.  You can even bring your own food and an attendant will set it up for you at no extra charge.  Or you can have a spa lunch ordered and there is wine available for purchase.  I would highly recommend spending some time on this patio!  It was the perfect place to have lunch and just feel like you've escaped from the whole world.  You feel like you're in a relaxing oasis instead of a few miles from home.

My first service was a petite facial with Luda.  It was such a lovely and relaxing session.  I had exfoliation and a mask.  There was steaming and massaging.  Luda, the esthetician, also talked to be about my skin and gave me some advice on dealing with some problems I've been having.  It was a lovely session and the perfect way to start my spa day.

In between services, you can hang out on the patio or there's a waiting area with tea, water, and light snacks.  I opted for some spa water on the patio since it was such a lovely day.  I was able to chat with my friends for a few minutes before heading off to the next service.

Next, I had a massage with masseuse Elizabeth.  Is there anything in life more relaxing than a massage?  They have these amazing rooms with shower heads over the bed where you can get rinsed off right in the room.  It's so neat!  I was in one of these rooms but I didn't try to rinse.  The lights are dim and there's calming music.  Elizabeth asked me how much pressure I liked and what my problem areas were.  It was a WONDERFUL massage and I wish I could go back right this second.

After the massage, the masseuse asked me if I wanted to try the Turkish Showers to rinse off.  I figured I was already there so I should try it.  She got it started for me and walked me over there which I found so thoughtful!  The Turkish Showers have steam as well as the traditional shower head.  The steam at Hoshall's had aroma therapy too.  I steamed for as long as I could manage, which isn't long for me since I run really warm, then I turned on the cold water and rinsed off to close up all my pores as suggested by Elizabeth.  They also have a Desert Dry Sauna that people are welcome to use between services or  you can use just the sauna and shower for a small fee.

My last treatment for the day was a blow out.  I have never gone to a salon for a blow out before.  They wash and dry your hair and they will style it for you.  My cute hairstyle Katie had these lovely beach waves and a braid in her hair that day and I asked her to make my hair look just like hers.  She did an amazing job and it was sooooooo luxurious to have someone style my hair.  I felt so pretty leaving the salon!

I highly recommend booking a spa day at Hoshall's!  It's the perfect gift for someone important in your life.  What's a better gift than spending the day relaxing and being pampered?  It's perfect for a busy mom or a bride to relax before her big day or anyone who loves being treated like a queen!  I know what I'll be putting on my holiday wishlist!

Friends Day Out in Old Sacramento

Last year, we made some amazing new friends and we have been making an effort to get together once a month for a fun day out.  This month we decided to do a day in Old Sacramento since our friends recently signed the lease on their new business, Neo Escape Rooms.  They wanted to show us the space before they started construction and we wanted to check out what Old Sac has to offer for a group of friends.

This post is in collaboration with Fats Restaurant Group.  We were given a meal in exchange for an honest review.  As always, all opinions are my own.  

First off, we met up for lunch at Fat City Bar and Cafe.  Fat City is owned and run by Fats Restaurant Group which are the same people who bring you Frank Fats and Fat's Asia Bistro.  However, Fat City is a very different concept.  It is right in Old Sac across from the Embarcadero and offers an eclectic menu of upscale cuisine.  They have everything from nachos and sandwiches to French Beouf Bourguignon and Jambalaya Pasta.  With their extensive menu, we were able to find something to suit every person in our group's appetite.  

We started with some appetizers.  We got the nachos and the calamari.  I asked for cocktail sauce for the calamari and the waiter said they didn't have any BUT he would MAKE me some.  Talk about great service!  It was also the best cocktail sauce I've ever had!  Then we moved onto entrees, my husband and one of our friends got the Burger of the Week.  The week we went it was a BBQ Bison Burger and they both enjoyed it very much.  My friend Acme got the Chicken Pot Pie which was brought back my popular demand.  Rightly so, it was delicious!  My friend Alex got the Beouf Bourguignon which was tender and flavorful.  It came with lovely vegetables.  I got the Osso Buco since I haven't seen that on many menus.  It was fall off the bone tender and so full of flavor!  We loved all our meals and the staff was delightful!  I can't wait to come back to try more Fat City Bar and Cafe's menu, maybe next time for brunch!

After our filling lunch, we walked around Old Sac to digest.  We happened to be there on May the Fourth Day and we decided to dress to theme.  There was a Star Wars themed scavenger hunt but unfortunately we didn't have time to complete it.  We did however enjoy the decorations and visited with some cosplayers.  We also took some pictures.

Then, we toured the space that will be Neo Escape Rooms.  Our friends Gabriel and Acme won a contest called Calling All Dreamers which helps people with business ideas with resources to open their own business in Downtown Sacramento.  They recently signed the lease on a large space next to Firehouse Restaurant.  They will be transforming the space into three Sacramento themed escape rooms.  I can't wait for them to open because escape rooms are the perfect way to spend time with friends!

We finished our day off with a sweet treat from another Calling All Dreamers contest winner, Milk House Shakes.  The owner's name is Kelly and she created fabulous Presidential inspired milkshakes such as the Abraham Lincoln which is an Oreo shake and the Theodore Roosevelt which is a coffee shake since he was rumored to drink a gallon of coffee a day.  The cute little shop is a family affair where you can often find Kelly's mom and twin sister scooping up some delicious shakes.  My husband and I tried a traditional Oreo Shake which the other guys mixed a bunch of flavors together.  We enjoyed our shakes outside at the picnic tables and it was a lovely end to a lovely day!

Old Sacramento is going through a revitalization.  The Embarcadero they built is the perfect place to see many iconic Sacramento features such as the Tower Bridge and The Ziggurat.  Old Sac draws tourist for a reason.  There's great restaurants, fun shops, and more and more events happening all the time.  Next time you're out for a friend's day, give it a shot!

Snow Day for Non-Snow People in Apple Hill

I love the idea of snow but if I'm honest, it scares me.  Growing up in the Sacramento area, we never got snow.  I don't know how to drive in snow.  I'm actually not all that great at even walking in snow.  But of course, my kids love snow even though my daughter had never seen snow in person before.  Last Monday, we had a short and sweet snow day that I wanted to share with anyone like me who is slightly anxious about snow.

I talked to my husband's cousin after she posted that it snowed in the town where she lives.  Unfortunately, she told me that the snow was melting but recommended I go to Apple Hill to see snow.  Why have I never thought of this?!?

Wanna know if there's snow in Apple Hill right the second you want to go?  My tip?  Check Instagram!  You can go to either Apple Hill's page, a page of one of the orchards like Boa Vista, or you can check out posts from random people under the Apple Hill geotag.  The day I looked, I found photos posted within the hour with snow on the ground.  I tried checking the weather app and it only told me the current weather which was about 42 and did not tell me if there was snow on the ground.  The weather app will most likely only tell you if it's currently snowing, raining, etc...  That was not helpful to me.  I wanted to know if there was viable snow to be played with.

The beauty of going to Apple Hill in February is that it is not nearly as crowded as October.  LOL!  We went on President's Day which is always a Monday.  We did not hit any traffic.  There was NO snow or ice on the roads.  We went up HWY 50 and took the directions that our phone gave us.  There was snow on the sides of the road but NONE of the actual highway or streets.  This was really important to me since I didn't want to buy chains for the car.  (I did see online that people experienced traffic on the weekends.)

We decided to stop at Boa Vista Orchards since I knew from being there in the fall that they have a large open lot across the street that they normally put their pumpkin patch in.  They are open all year so I was also excited to buy some baked goods while I was up there!  It was really easy to park in their parking lot and cross the street to the snow.

There were a few inches of snow on the ground it was was perfect for playing while not having to worry about my tiny daughter sinking into a large area of snow.  Since it was just a couple inches, we were mostly fine in our sneakers and regular winter boats without needing snow boots.  In fact, it wasn't all that cold so some gloves, a jacket, and a hat was all that was needed.  The boys didn't even wear hats.

When we got too cold and needed a break from the snow, we headed across the street to Boa Vista's bakery and got hot chocolate and hot apple cider to warm up.  We also got some still warm donuts and it was basically bliss.  They have a small fire place where you can warm up a bit too.  They also have hard cider and wine for the 21 and up.  I suggest bringing a little spending money and taking some apples, baked goods, and drinks home with you too!

Things I Wish We Had:
1. Plastic Sled (this is an affiliate link, if you purchase from it, I earn a small commission.) for going down the hill they have.
2. Things to decorate a snowman ie carrot nose, charcoal eyes, etc...
3. Waterproof gloves.  We brought the cheap knit kind.
4. Waterproof shoes.  We wore regular shoes and mostly did ok but we did get our feet a little damp.

We spent a couple hours and the kids got their fill of snow.  It took about an hour to get there and an hour to get back.  I'm glad my daughter finally got to see the snow.  It wasn't anything ground breaking but it was a nice, fun time and inexpensive!

Disney on Ice:100 Years of Magic Media Night

Disney on Ice is back in Sacramento from Nov 1-4 for their 100 Years of Magic show at the Golden One Arena.  We were lucky enough to get invited to a media event before the opening and to see the opening show.  As per usual, Disney does not disappoint.

This show boasts 14 classic and modern stories.  There are 50 characters in the show and there are 30 songs.  We really loved Aladdin, Mulan, and The Lion King.  We don't recall seeing any of these songs in previous shows.  We also really enjoyed the Finding Dory number with the turtles, it felt different from the last time we went to Disney on Ice which was in February (you can read about that HERE.)  The entire format of the show changed which is great for people who go multiple times a year.

Of course, my daughter and I loved seeing all the Disney princesses and their princes.  Disney on Ice allows children under the age of 14 to dress up and my daughter wore her Snow While dress for the evening.  She was most excited to see Snow White since they matched!  Personally, I wish they would shorten the Frozen section of the show but I understand that all the little girls are still crazy about it.

Some frugal tips:
1. They have a $10 bottomless refillable soda.  If you are going to have a soda, buy it early and get those refills!
2. If you are on a budget, look at for the $10 opening night tickets.  They usually do them every opening night.
3. Gift your child a souvenir at home.  The gift items at the event can be expensive, picking up an item from a dollar store is a great alternative.
4. Look online for parking.  A lot of the garages will list the price and you can pick accordingly.
5. If you want to make a whole day of being downtown, check out the Downtown Ice Rink right across the street.  Opening day is only $2 to skate.  They even have a Princess and Superhero day this coming Saturday!  You can read about our experience with the ice rink HERE.

I recommend going to the show if you love Disney or ice skating.  It's just one of those classic things that doesn't get old.  We love singing along to the songs and seeing the magic.  I remember going to Disney on Ice as a kid and it still holds the same magic for me.  Actually, it holds more magic as I watch my baby girl's eyes light up with joy watching the show.

As I mentioned before, we got to attend a media event before the show.  Honestly, every single day of my life and I am grateful for what blogging has brought to my family.  Somedays I'm a little more grateful than others.  Last night was one of the latter.

Disney on Ice invited our kids to come to the media event.  They were able to decorate cookies and color.  Then, they were able to meet Mickey and Minnie!!  My daughter ran up and gave Mickey the biggest hug.  I'm so sad I don't have a photo of it since I already gave my phone to the attendant taking photos.

Sacramento RiverTrain: Pumpkin Train

We are constantly looking for new and fun things to do with the kids so we can make new memories. Recently, we heard about the Pumpkin Train from Sacramento RiverTrain and it fit the bill just perfectly!  It's hard to find things that all my kids will like since my oldest is 6 years older than my youngest.  They all loved the Pumpkin Train!

The Sacramento RiverTrain is based out of West Sacramento.  It is a local family owned business and their rail line is 14 miles long.  The train goes from West Sac to Woodland.  The train goes 10-15 miles an hour for a leisurely experience.

We arrived a few minutes early for the Pumpkin Train and easily found parking.  They told us what train car we were in and we were able to get a lovely booth.  All the seating was next to windows so you could enjoy the view from the train.  Our tickets included a soft drink from the concession stand and we purchased a couple snacks to enjoy.  NOTE: the concession stand only accepts card, no cash or check.




The ride to the pumpkin patch takes about 45 mins.  In that time, we enjoyed our snacks and sodas while watching the river and farm land views.  We also got up and walked over to the open air cars at the front of the train and checked those out.  In one of the cars, they had story time.  They also had a person doing face painting and caricature drawings.  My kids also got some ballon animals from a gentleman who was doing balloon twisting.  PRO TIP: bring along some small bills for tips.  We only brought $5 in cash so I only allowed my kids to get balloons.  I didn't realize there would be so many different things offered on the train.

The pumpkin patch was a private patch set up exclusively for the Pumpkin Train.  This was awesome because it was not too crowded.  The little patch had a variety of different pumpkins to choose from.  They had big pumpkins, little pumpkins, orange pumpkins, white pumpkins, green pumpkins, etc... The pumpkin patch had a covered area with picnic tables and there was complimentary self-serve lemonade and water.  There was cute decorations that were good for photo ops.  They also had a supervised bounce house and corn hole set up.  We spent about an hour at the pumpkin patch and then it was time to go back to the train station.

On the ride back, there were a few fun things to do.  They had a bunch of stickers out so people could decorate the pumpkins.  My kids at first were reluctant since they wanted to carve their pumpkins but we figured we could just peel the stickers off later and still carve.  They had another story time with a different story.  An employee also went through the train and offered the kids some complimentary masks that they could take home and color.

Overall, we had an AMAZING time on the Sacramento RiverTrain and will be going back.  Since it is a ticketed event, there was a limited amount of people.  I have a son who gets really overwhelmed by crowds and lots of commotion.  He had a GREAT time on the train since it wasn't overly crowded.  He could do the craft, the pumpkin picking, and bounce house without being overwhelmed and for us, that's a big deal.  He loved the experience and was smiling ear to ear!  The other kids loved it too but they are more easy going so I wanted to note this for any parents who have a sensitive child.

Summerland 2018 at Park Winters Recap (Photo Heavy)

I was lucky enough to be invited to the most dreamy, wonderful event called Summerland at Park Winters on June 28.  Today, I'm writing a recap and sharing some pretty pictures with you.  I had heard of Park Winters before but had never visited.  Do not make the same mistake I made!  This place is nothing short of magical and you need to get over there as soon as you can!  Park Winters is known for being a wedding and event venue but they also have a bed and breakfast as well as a Farm Dinner several times a month.

Summerland was an amazing event filled with gorgeous vignettes all over the property and different events throughout the day.  I'm just going to go through the day chronologically with you because that's how it makes the most sense in my head.  Also, I will be sharing my photos and photos of me.  I will link you to a place to see more photos at the end.

Park Winters is about an hour drive from where I live.  The property is stunning!  Upon walking in from the parking lot, you are transported to a different world of lush green gorgeousness.  I will admit, I walked in the wrong way and missed the sign in table but I found it later.

However, I was a lovely pink tent of flowers and balloons and my feet just took me over there.  Somehow I ended up in the Rose tent first off.  I guess the heart wants what the heart wants.  And while I was there I figured it would be rude to turn down the drinks.

Then we wandered over to the pool area to check it out.  We chatted with some friends and hung out a bit.

Then we heard a lovely speech from Rafael Galiano, owner of Park Winters.  He's the most lovely man!  (I was so busy listening to him that I forgot to take a picture of him.)  He said he put together the whole event because following bloggers like Sassy Red Lipstick and Wannabe Fashion Blogger gave him so much joy.  He wanted a place where we could meet, have a great time, and foster relationships.  I could not be more grateful to have been invited especially after hearing the why!  I love building community and making new friends!

I met Sarah Tripp aka Sassy Red Lipstick!!!  Then I fainted!  Not really but almost.

Rafael also told us to explore the property.  Now if there's one thing you need to know about my husband it is that if you tell him there's exploring to be done, he will explore it.

Then we headed into the main building at The Inn at Park Winters which has 4 suites.  There were people staying in the suites so we didn't explore them but we did get to see the lovely downstairs of the bed and breakfast.

We found a sweet surprise inside The Inn!  Sacramento chocolatier Ginger Elizabeth was inside setting up a display, a flat lay, and a chocolate tasting.

After cooling off at the chocolate tasting, we went to explore the property.

Then we got to experience a dinner at Park Winters.  I've had several friends tell me about the amazing dinners at Park Winters and I was so excited to try it!  It was everything they said it would be and more!  Every single thing was absolutely delicious!

I cannot explain to you how lucky I feel to be invited to such an amazing event!  Every single detail of this event and Park Winters is literally out of a dream!  I was so overwhelmed by the beauty that I forgot to take pictures of a lot of things.  (If you want to see a lot of really beautiful photos and an amazing recap, check out my friend Katrina's blog post.)

I didn't know where life was going to take me when I switched from DIY blogging to Lifestyle blogging.  I mostly did it because I couldn't manage to create projects anymore but I just loved and missed blogging so much.  I never in my wildest dreams thought it would take me to the most beautiful places I've ever seen and meet the most amazing people!  I'm so grateful and humbled!
